Public Law
We advise individuals, businesses and charities on the full range of public law matters — from challenges to decisions of central and local government to regulator action and human-rights based representations.
Our public law practice covers central and local government decisions, regulator action, immigration and asylum decisions, prison and parole matters, statutory consultation processes and policy challenges.
We work to strict pre-action and Civil Procedure Rules timetables and instruct leading public-law counsel where the matter requires it. Many public law matters are resolved without proceedings through carefully prepared pre-action correspondence.
Where formal proceedings are required, we manage the matter through the Administrative Court — including urgent interim relief applications, permission hearings and substantive hearings.

Frequently asked questions
- What is public law?
- Public law governs the relationship between individuals and the state. It is used to challenge the lawfulness of decisions and policies of public authorities, regulators and government bodies.
- How quickly do I need to act?
- Public law claims are subject to strict time limits — usually three months from the decision being challenged, and sometimes shorter. Early advice is essential.
- Do I need to exhaust other remedies first?
- In most cases, yes. The court will expect you to have raised the issue with the public body and considered any internal review or appeal route before bringing a public law challenge.
